Roundabout Theatre Company’s revival of The Big Knife, which will star Tony nominee and Emmy-winning actor Bobby Cannavale, has set an opening night date for April 16, 2013 at the American Airlines Theatre. The Doug Hughes-directed production of Clifford Odets’ 1949 drama will begin previews on March 22, with the limited engagement set to run through June 2.
Set during the golden age of Hollywood, The Big Knife follows film star Charlie Castle (Cannavale), whose studio has been forced to cover up a mistake that could have ended his career. When a woman with insider knowledge threatens to come forward, the studio heads will stop at nothing to protect Charlie's secret. Charlie must decide what lengths he's willing to go to before just quitting the business for good.
The Big Knife first opened at the National Theatre on February 24, 1949, starring John Garfield as Charlie Castle. The production ran 109 performances before closing on May 22, 1949.
